BERTOLETTTE SCHOLARSHIP

Dear IRCMS Members:
As you may know, a scholarship fund has been established by the FSU College of Medicine in honor of our friend and colleague, the late Dr. Randall Bertolette, MD. The scholarship fund will benefit students from the Fort Pierce Regional Campus entering the fourth year of medical school with an interest in organized medicine. Dr. Bertolette had a private pediatric practice for many years in Vero Beach and was the IRCMS President from 1996-1999. He was the founding dean of the “Doctoring 3” program at the FSU College of Medicine Fort Pierce Regional Campus. He was able to recruit over 300 specialty doctors to teach the students in this program.
Fifty dollars is currently can be added to your dues to go to this scholarship. If you would like to make an additional donation, please enclose a check and indicate “FSU scholarship” on the memo line.

Randall deB. Bertolette, MD retirement party
Randall Bertolette, M.D. was honored by members of the Indian River County Medical Society, Florida Medical Association and Florida State University students at the The Club at Pointe West in Vero Beach.
After 36 years of giving to the community, Bertolette is retiring as regional campus dean of the FSU College of Medicine. He is regarded by FSU students as someone to whom they can turn for advocacy and support, and has been overseeing the clinical education for third and fourth year medical students at the Fort Pierce Regional Campus since its inception in 2007.
He works closely with the clerkship directors and physicians to ensure the quality of the clinical education program and can always be counted on for a fair hearing and a balanced response.
Bertolette began his service to organized medicine as a medical student member of the AMA and served as president of the house staff at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children during his residency.
He was in private pediatric practice in Vero Beach from 1979 to 2007. He has worked diligently to protect the safety of Florida's children. He was certified in the Forensic Evaluation of Sexual Abuse and Assault by the Florida Attorney General and Office of Victims Assistance in 1998.
In addition, he has served as an expert witness for the U.S. Customs Agency in the evaluation of computer child pornography.
Although Bertolette has held numerous high level positions, he also is very willing to work at the grass roots level. His list of board memberships is extensive and shows his true involvement and deep commitment to many projects as reflected in his CV.
He is a "behind the scenes" type of person who does not actively seek out recognition for his contributions. He willingly volunteers whenever and wherever he perceives a need for his services.
He approaches each challenge with a sense of fairness and is frequently called upon to deal with controversial issues because of his diplomacy in handling sticky situations.
Bertolette is held in high regard by hospital administrators, medical personnel, patients and students alike.
He has served the Indian River County Medical Society in a leadership capacity since 1979. He has served as FMA Delegate since 1983 and has served the FMA as AMA delegate since year 2000, and Alternate Delegate in 2013.
His list of board membership over the past 30 years include the American Medical Association, Florida Medical Association, Indian River County Medical Society, IRC Med-PAC, FLAMPAC, AMPAC, Southern Medical Association, Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Florida Pediatric Society, Florida Child Protection Team, Indian River Memorial Hospital board of Directors, Indian River PHO and Treasure Coast Rehabilitation Hospital.
