FSU College of Medicine Student Merit Scholarship Fund

The Executive Committee of the IRCMS established the FSU Scholarship Fund Committee in January of 2012 with a goal to develop a plan to raise funds for third and fourth year FSU COM medical student scholarships.

FSU College of Medicine’s goal is to raise $20,000 per year (four $5,000 scholarships) with an eventual goal of $50,000 per year. The goal of the IRCMS is to raise enough funds for two scholarships ($10,000) annually. The scholarship recipients will be encouraged to provide volunteer medical care to indigent patients when in practice after residency.

According to Randall deB. Bertolette, M.D., retired Dean of FSU College of Medicine, Fort Pierce Regional Campus, the average student loan debt is $150,000. This debt remains a prevailing major obstacle to improving health care accessibility. Decreasing medical student loans can be a powerful tool in helping students choose to practice in primary care. It has become increasingly important for all of us to help relieve that debt burden.

We know you value the future of medicine. Many IRCMS members have been incredibly supportive of the development of FSU College of Medicine Fort Pierce Regional Campus and the training of students. Financial support from members of the Indian River County Medical Society would make a significant difference for students studying here on the Treasure Coast.

We sincerely appreciate your donations . Thank you! Our goal may seem ambitious, but let’s keep it in perspective -- If each IRCMS members gave $100, we would easily reach and exceed our $10,000 goal this year! We believe it’s attainable!

Please consider donating generously to support our future physicians and the future of medicine. Your donation will be acknowledged directly by the FSU Foundation.
