The “Big Easy” will have nothing on Vero Beach on March 1st as the We Care Foundation of Indian River’s 5th Annual Mardi Gras Celebration prepares to “let the good times roll” at the Oak Harbor Club.
This year’s Mardi Gras is guaranteed to be the best one yet as Phoebe’s Samba Dancers will once again “get the party started” and provide entertainment throughout the evening. Also returning is D J Louis G who will bring his exciting repertoire of dance music, lighting and other surprises.
Adding to a true Mardi Gras carnival atmosphere will be a photo booth, games, balloons with prizes, stilt walkers, caricature artists, jugglers and magicians. And you won’t want to miss out on the opportunity at the silent auction to bid on several amazing trips. Excursions offered this year will be: Alaskan Cruise; Italy’s Romantic Amalfi Coast, Champagne & Chateaus, Bodega Bay Golf, Castles of Ireland, Cruising Poseidon’s Paradise, Classic London, Escape to New Orleans, Pleasures and Treasures of Tuscany, and the Florida Keys.
The Mardi Gras Krewe, headed by co-chairs Brian Hartman and Elizabeth White, has been hard at work to make sure beaded and masked guests revel an evening of exciting New Orleans cuisine, dancing and festivities. Other Krewe members are: Jennifer Courtney, Ben Earman, Miranda Hawker, Colette Henry, John Henry, Carol Kanarek, Hala Laviolette, Lyndsay Marone, Ann Marie McCrystal, Stephanie Nelson, Caitlin Rice, Jay Rinchack, Helen Shafer, Donna Sorge, Diana Stark, Shelley Stuven, Maria Zambigadis and Tracey Zudans.
Hartman and White recently announced that this year’s Mardi Gras presenting sponsors are Your South Florida BMW Centers and the Bernard Egan Foundation.
The Mardi Gras Celebration is the We Care Foundation of Indian River’s signature fundraising event that also honors its 160 volunteer specialty physicians and other medical professionals. Proceeds return directly to the Indian River County community to help meet We Care program and We Care Clinic non-physician ancillary medical or medically related needs for We Care patients.
Tickets for Mardi Gras are $200. Each ticket purchased can provide three (3) We Care patients with a month’s supply of prescribed medications -- or pay rent for a homeless person in need of shelter while recovering post-surgery. These are just a few examples of non-physician medical services provided by the Foundation for people in need of assistance.
