Otolaryngology (commonly referred to as "ENT") is a Medical and Surgical specialty concerned with the diagnosis, management and treatment of diseases and disorders of the Ear, Nose & Throat and related structures of the head and neck, including the sinuses, larynx (voice box), oral cavity, and pharynx (throat).
Subspecialty areas within Otolaryngology include Pediatric Otolaryngology (treatment of Children), Laryngology (treatment of Throat and Voice disorders), Rhinology (treatment of the Nose & Sinuses), Otology/Neurotology (treatment of Ears, Hearing & Balance), Facial Plastic Surgery, Head and Neck Surgery and Allergy. Some Otolaryngologists limit their practices to one or more of these seven areas. Otolaryngology is the oldest medical specialty in the U.S.
